摘要 A process of fabricating a rotating component (10) and components (10) formed thereby. The process includes fabricating preforms (22/32,24/34) corresponding to portions of the component (10). Each preform (22/32,24/34) has an interface surface (26) at which the preforms (22/32,24/34) can be joined to locate a first (12) of the portions (12,14) in a radially outward direction from a second (14) of the portions (12/14). The preforms (22/32,24/34) are then inertia welded together to form a profile (40) having a solid-state weld joint (28) containing a finer-grained material than other portions (32,34) of the profile (40). The profile (40) is then forged with dies (42,44) to produce a forging (60/70). At least one of the dies (42,44) has a recess (52,54) into which the finer-grained material from the weld joint (28) is expelled during forging to purge a joint region (68/78) of the forging (60/70) between the forging portions (62/72,64/74) of the finer-grained material. The joint region (68/78) contains grains distorted in an axial direction of the forging (60/70).
