The clamping device has movable clamping jaws (4a,4b) and a base body (1), relative to which the movable clamping jaws are moved. A pressure fluid drive is provided for moving the clamping jaws. A spindle drive is provided for mechanical movement of clamping jaws. The clamping jaws are decoupled in closed direction of the base body. The pressure fluid drive of the clamping jaws is moved without actuating the spindle drive in closed direction. An independent claim is also included for a method for clamping a workpiece.
