The invention comprises straight-chain aliphatic alcohols with 14 to 18 carbon atoms and two conjugated double bonds in the molecule. Pentadecadien-(6,8)-ol-(1), hexadecadien-(10,12)-ol-(1), and pentadecadien-(10,12)-ol-(1) are claimed. The compounds are used as insect attractors either alone or in combination with chemical or physical insect exterminators, and are associated with an inert carrier such as kieselguhr, talc, kaolin, bentonite and sawdust, and especially valuable for this purpose are those having a terminal hydroxyl group, sixteen carbon atoms per molecule and at least three carbon atoms on either side of the double bonds. Compositions of hexadecadien-(10,12)-ol-(1), gamma-hexachloro-cyclohexane and kieselguhr are exemplified and the compounds may be prepared by methods described in Specifications 874,581, 886,364, 886,577 and 911,106.ALSO:Straight-chain aliphatic alcohols with 14 to 18 carbon atoms and two conjugated double bonds in the molecule, e.g. pentadecadien-(6.8)-ol-(1) hexadecadien - (10, 12) - ol - (1), and pentadecadien - (10, 12) - ol - (1) (Group IV (b)) are used as insect attractors either alone or in combination with chemical or physical insect exterminators and are associated with an inert carrier such as kieselguhr talc, kaolin, bentonite and sawdust.
