PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for changing color of a coating film, which allows formation of a coating film whose color is dramatically changed from an achromatic color to a chromatic color when light incident angle is changed relative to the normal of the surface of the coating film. SOLUTION: The method for changing color of a coating film is characterized by: applying a coating material composition, containing (A) a brightening material having an interference effect depending on angle and (B) metal oxide-coated mica and/or metal oxide-coated alumina flake in a mass ratio of the solid content of the (A) component to the solid content of the (B) component, ((A)/(B)), of 2.5/1 to 1/6, wherein the interference color of the (A) component and the interference color of the (B) component have a complementary color relation at a face angle of the coating film; and changing the color of the obtained coating film from an achromatic color to a chromatic color when changing the observation angle of the coating film from a face angle to a grazing angle.
