A display device and a control method thereof are provided. The display device comprises a camera obtaining an image including a gesture of a user and a controller extracting the image of the gesture from the obtained image and executing a function mapped to the extracted gesture when the range of the gesture exceeds a threshold corresponding to the user. The method of controlling the display device executes functions respectively corresponding to specific gestures of users when the gestures exceed thresholds respectively corresponding to the users to operate the display device in a manner most suitable for the range of the gesture of each user.
