<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an elevator capable of smoothly guiding a torque arm by a simple structure. <P>SOLUTION: The elevator includes a base 17, a hoisting machine 16 fixed onto the base 17 and having a rotary shaft 26, a brake device 21 attached to the rotary shaft 26, the torque arm 23 having one end 23A fixed to the brake device 21 and another end 23B in a side opposite of the one end 23A, and stoppers 24 provided on the base 17 and disposed as a pair in a direction in parallel with a moving direction of the torque arm 23 moving around the rotary shaft 26 in both sides of the torque arm 23.
