PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a gateway device which enhances safety for transmission and reception of e-mail. SOLUTION: A mail box 10 for receiving an SMTP in an SRAM 7 stores plain text e-mail from a client personal computer 30. A main control section 1 distributes the plain text e-mail addressed to the client personal computer 30, which has transmitted a second mail reception request command, to the client personal computer 30 and then transmits, to a mail server apparatus 40, an e-mail deletion command to delete encrypted e-mail with an electronic signature corresponding to the plain text e-mail distributed to the client personal computer 30, from a mail box 402 of the mail server apparatus 40.
