PURPOSE: A photographing apparatus and a control method thereof is provided to help the photography of a user using a face detection result. CONSTITUTION: A face detection unit(210) detects the face of a subject from an input image. An eye location detection unit(220) detects the location of an eye in a coordinates plane. The standards of the coordinates plane is the center of the detected face. According to the detected location of the eye, a grip decision unit(230) decides grip information. The grip information shows information about whether a camera posture is a horizontal grip or a vertical grip.
