<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce power consumption while enhancing visibility. <P>SOLUTION: A light emission quantity calculation part 19 is configured to perform a light emission quantity calculating processing in accordance with a corrected maximum pixel value, as a light emission quantity calculating processing to calculate the quantity of light to be emitted from a light source 32. When a power saving mode is selected as a display mode, the light emission quantity calculation part 19 calculates the light emission quantity equal to or lower than a reference light emission quantity as the light emission quantity of the light source in accordance with the corrected maximum pixel value. When a visibility enhancing mode is selected as the display mode, the light emission quantity calculation part 19 calculates the reference light emission quantity or the light emission quantity larger than the reference light emission quantity as the light emission quantity of the light source. An image correction part 18 is configured to perform as an image correction processing to correct the image, an image pixel value extension processing of the image in accordance with the corrected maximum pixel value obtained by correcting the maximum pixel value of the image, and perform gradation correction to suppress saturation of the pixel values from the corrected maximum pixel value to the maximum pixel value by the extension processing.
