PURPOSE: An apparatus for handling bank note is provided to use a part of a bank note receiving storage to other purposes while maintaining bank note carriage efficiency and carriage reliability. CONSTITUTION: The first bidirectional carriage path arranges one end near the other end. The second bidirectional carriage path(20) has the second carriage part for enabling a bank note to be carried bidirectionally, and can be connected to one end or the other end of the first bidirectional carriage path. A connection converting part connects one end of the first bidirectional carriage path to the second bidirectional carriage path or connects the other end of the first bidirectional carriage path to the second bidirectional carriage path. A bank note discriminating part, installed on the first bidirectional carriage path, discriminates the bank note. A bank note deposit and withdrawal part(40), connected to the first bidirectional carriage path, deposits the bank note to the apparatus for handling the bank note or withdraws the bank note from the apparatus. The first bank note receiving part(60) connected to the first bidirectional carriage path, receives and stores the bank note. The first bank note receiving part connected to the second bidirectional carriage path, receives and stores the bank note.
