[Also in Divisions A2 and B8] A dough proofer comprises a pair of endless chains 6 trained around pairs of sprockets 5 arranged so that horizontal parallel loops L-1, L-2 &c. are provided. The conveyer path may be curtailed at will by short-circuiting one or more of the loops. Cross-bars 7 are mounted at spaced intervals on the chains 6 and support trays T of comb-like form. A vertically adjustable loading station 16 is mounted adjacent to the ends of the loops L-1 &c. and comprises a carriage frame 19 having parallel side bars 20 interconnected by cross-bars 21. A set of link chains 23 runs on guides 22 and carries articles to be loaded on to the trays T to the position where bars 8 forming the comb of the tray pass between the guides 22 and lift the article from the chains 23. The carriage 19 may be adjusted vertically by means of threaded shafts 29.
