PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new sandbox anti-bacterial sand technique which surely avoids metal allergy and soil pollution, is friendly with human bodies and the environment, can improve the touch of sand and shaping properties, furthermore acquires a long-term sterilizing effect, and can be economically maintained. SOLUTION: Anti-bacterial sand 1 is obtained by subjecting natural sand 10 or artificial sand 10 to heat sterilization treatment B at a temperature of 100 to 400°C which does not destroy the sand structure, subjecting the entire surface of each sand particle to coating treatment C with an anti-bacterial polymer obtained by diluting a water-soluble polymer containing at least one anti-bacterial component of an acidic group and a quaternary ammonium base, biguanide, pyridinium base, phosphonium salt or sulfonium salt which is ionically bonded to the acidic group with an appropriate amount of water, and forming and coating each dried water-insoluble anti-bacterial polymer layer 2 on the entire surface of each sand particle.
