PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a data reading apparatus that speedily outputs data from a plurality of recording mediums by housing the recording mediums such as optical disks therein. SOLUTION: The data reading apparatus is a disk changer wherein the plurality of optical disks (recording mediums) can be housed using a plurality of trays 3, 3, .... When an optional optical disk is housed, the data reading apparatus reads part of the data recorded in the optical disk and stores the same in a storage memory (storage means) 12. When receiving data read instructions, the data reading apparatus reads the data stored in the storage memory 12, stores the data in the buffer memory 13, reads the data from the buffer memory 13, and outputs the data to the outside, until the data is actually read from the optical disk.
