857,286. Measuring liquid viscosity electrically. CIHELKA, B., and HERMAN, O. Oct. 2, 1957 [Oct. 18, 1956], No. 30840/57. Class 40(1). Apparatus for measuring the viscosity of a liquid by determining the time taken for a ball to fall a known distance in the liquid, comprises a measuring tube 3 (Fig. 1) having two similar coils wound on it, the tube being normally filled with the liquid under pressure from a pump 2 which is periodically stopped so that the metal ball 5, held at the top of the tube by the pressure, falls past the coils, producing two pulses whose spacing is compared at 10 with a predetermined time interval, the difference being exhibited at 12, and used at 13 to add a predetermined quantity of dilutant to the test liquid. The coils 15, 16 (Fig. 3) are coupled to an oscillator and produce a voltage pulse at the grid of valve 35 as the ball passes each coil, each pulse causing relay 36 to be energized, and the time interval between the pulses is compared in a relay network 10 with a predetermined pulse duration.
|
