An electrical wedge tap connector for power utility transmission conductors

Disclosed is an electrical connector assembly for power utility transmission conductors. The assembly includes a first conductive member and a second conductive member separately fabricated from one another. Each of the first and second conductive members include a wedge portion and a deflectable channel portion extending from the wedge portion. The channel portion of the first conductive member is adapted to receive a first conductor at a spaced location from the wedge portion of the first conductive member and the channel portion of the second conductive member is adapted to receive a second conductor at a spaced location from the wedge portion of the second conductive member. The wedge portion of the first conductive member is configured to nest within and be secured to the wedge portion of the second conductive member and wherein the wedge portion of the second conductive member is configured to nest within and be secured to the wedge portion of the first conductive member. A fastener extends through the wedge portion of each of the first and second conductive members to join the first and second conductive members to one another. The first conductor is captured between the channel portion of the first conductive member and the wedge portion of the second conductive member. The second conductor is captured between the channel portion of the second conductive member and the wedge portion of the first conductive member when the first and second conductive members are joined to one another.
