The present invention relates to a method for preparing gintonin, which is a novel glycolipoprotein isolated and identified from Panax ginseng, to gintonin, which is a novel glycolipoprotein isolated and identified from Panax ginseng, prepared by the method, and to the use of gintonin, which is a novel glycolipoprotein. The gintonin, which is a novel glycolipoprotein, according to the present invention temporarily causes an increase in free Ca2+ in cytoplasm, and activates a calcium-activated chloride channel (CaCC) which is intrinsically present in Xenopus oocytes, thus increasing an intracellular calcium concentration. Therefore, gintonin, which is a novel glycolipoprotein, according to the present invention not only can be effectively used in preventing and treatingdiseases caused by a reduction in calcium concentration, but also exhibits superior effects in a variety of intracellular calcium-activated physiological activities or the like, such as adaptogenic activities, immunity-increasing activities, sexual-function-strengthening activities, nervous system protection and activation, vascularization, and anti-diabetic activities.
