PURPOSE: A navigation apparatus and method for a portable terminal are provided to resolve the degradation of readability of a portable terminal due to low resolution by extracting only necessary information to be provided. CONSTITUTION: A navigation method for a portable terminal is as follows. A signal for enabling a path guide mode is inputted(201). Map data is outputted in case the path guide mode enable signal is inputted(203). It is determined whether a signal for enabling a head-up display mode, in which only set driving information is outputted, is inputted(205). A driving information image including the set driving information is outputted in case the head-up display mode enable signal is inputted(209).
