PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide, with a cost performance equal to or less than in the past, an engagement device which can significantly improve antitheft performance by being configured so as to be hardly unlocked even if a sash glass is cut out to illicitly unlock it, and which can be operated from each side of fitting such as a sliding door even if it is disposed adjacently thereto. SOLUTION: An engagement arm is made to have sufficient strength in spite of a simple structure easy to process, and a positioning lock which cannot be easily unlocked and dispenses with carrying of a key is adopted as a secondary locking/unlocking device. The engagement is further secured by the degree of pulling-up of a thumb-turn 2 and the positional relation between the support point of the thumb-turn 2 and a spring 16 installed on the thumb-turn 2. The thumb-turn 2 and the engagement arm 1 are made into an integrated L-shaped structure, and can be slid along a guide groove to extend the allowable width of movement of the thumb-turn 2 so that the movement of the engagement arm 1 is extended sufficiently to change between engagement and non-engagement.
