摘要 <p>#CMT# #/CMT# Pearlescent pigment comprises a substantially transparent, platelet-shaped substrate having a thickness of delta sand at least one optically active coating having a thickness of delta m, where the substrate has an average size (d 5 0) of 3-8 mu m and an average height (h s) of 40-110 nm. #CMT# : #/CMT# Independent claims are included for: (1) a method for preparing the pearlescent pigment, comprising (a) classifying the transparent substrate to obtain a substrate having an average height (h s) of 40-110 nm and (b) coating the classified substrate with an optically active, preferably highly refractive, layer to obtain a pearlescent pigment having an average size (d 5 0) of 3-8 mu m; and (2) a method for calculating the average layer thickness (h s) of a platelet-shaped substrate, which is an effective pigment comprising a platelet-shaped substrate having a thickness of delta sand at least one optically active coating having a thickness of delta maccording to a formula given in the specification. #CMT#USE : #/CMT# The pearlescent pigment is useful: in lacquers, printing inks, cosmetics (including concealers, talcum powder, face powder, pressed and loose powder, face-makeup, powder, cream, cream makeup, emulsion makeup, wax makeup, foundation, mousse makeup, blushes, eye makeup (such as eye shadow, mascara, eyeliners, liquid eyeliners and eyebrow pencils), lip balm sticks, lipsticks, lip gloss, lip liners, hair styling compositions (such as hair spray, hair conditioner, hair mousse, hair gel, hair wax, hair mascara, permanent and semi-permanent hair color, and temporary hair color), skin care compositions (such as lotions, gels and emulsions) and nail polish composition), plastics, glasses, enamels or ceramics; as soft focus pigments; and in coating agent, preferably cosmetic preparation (all claimed). The pearlescent pigment, coated with titanium dioxide, is useful as UV absorbers. #CMT#ADVANTAGE : #/CMT# The effective pigment has: improved soft focus in addition to interference, deep gloss, optional colorfulness, where the soft focus is achieved by maximal diffuse reflection, minimal directed reflection and highest possible transmission; pleasant skin feel; and good concealing property in haze-effect, simultaneously with intensive interference color. #CMT#INORGANIC CHEMISTRY : #/CMT# Preferred Components: The average height (h s) is 40 nm to less than 100 nm. The standard deviation of the height (h s) is 25-80%. The pearlescent pigment comprises a size distribution with a d 9 0value of 7-11. The optically active coating has high refractive index coating, preferably with a refractive index (n m) of greater than 2. The optically active layer is/has a metal oxide-, metal hydroxide- and/or metal oxide hydrate-layer(s). The metal oxide layer is/contains titanium oxide, iron oxide, cerium oxide, chromium oxide, tin oxide, zirconium oxide and/or cobalt oxide. The layer thickness of the metal oxide layer is 10-300 nm. The metal oxide layer is titanium dioxide (TiO 2), preferably in rutile modification, and the substrate contains mica, where a correlation between the titanium dioxide-content (in wt.%) relative to the total weight of titanium dioxide and mica and the average layer thickness of the titanium dioxide-coating is: TiO 2content of 47.5-62 (preferably 50.5-62) wt.% at an average TiO 2-layer thickness of above 20-30 nm; TiO 2content of 58-74 (preferably 61-74) wt.% at an average TiO 2-layer thickness of above 35-45 nm; TiO 2content of 63-78 (preferably 65.5-78) wt.% at an average TiO 2-layer thickness of above 45-55 nm; TiO 2content of 67-82 (preferably 69.5-82) wt.% at an average TiO 2-layer thickness of above 55-65 nm; TiO 2content of 70-85 (preferably 72.5-85) wt.% at an average TiO 2-layer thickness of above 65-75 nm; TiO 2content of 73.5-86.5 (preferably 75-86.5) wt.% at an average TiO 2-layer thickness of above 75-85 nm; TiO 2content of 75-88 (preferably 77.5-88) wt.% at an average TiO 2-layer thickness of above 85-95 nm; TiO 2content of 76.5-89 (preferably 79-89) wt.% at an average TiO 2-layer thickness of above 95-105 nm; TiO 2content of 78.5-90 (preferably 80.5-90) wt.% at an average TiO 2-layer thickness of above 105-115 nm; TiO 2content of 80-91 (preferably 82-91) wt.% at an average TiO 2-layer thickness of above 115-125 nm; TiO 2content of 81.5-92 (preferably 83-92) wt.% at an average TiO 2-layer thickness of above 125-135 nm; TiO 2content of 83-92.5 (preferably 84.5-92.5) wt.% at an average TiO 2-layer thickness of above 135-145 nm; TiO 2content of 84-93 (preferably 85.5-93) wt.% at an average TiO 2-layer thickness of above 145-155 nm; TiO 2content of 84-93 (preferably 86.5-93) wt.% at an average TiO 2-layer thickness of above 155-165 nm; TiO 2content of 86-93.5 (preferably 87-93.5) wt.% at an average TiO 2-layer thickness of above 165-175 nm; TiO 2content of 87-94 (preferably 88-94) wt.% at an average TiO 2-layer thickness of above 175-185 nm; TiO 2content of 87.5-94 (preferably 88.5-94) wt.% at an average TiO 2-layer thickness of above 185-195 nm; TiO 2content of 88-94.5 wt.% at an average TiO 2-layer thickness of above 195-205 nm; and TiO 2content of 89-95 (preferably 89.5-95) wt.% at an average TiO 2-layer thickness of above 205-215 nm. The transparent, platelet-shaped substrate is mica, glass flakes (both preferred), synthetic mica, silicon dioxide platelet and/or aluminum oxide platelet. The pearlescent pigment comprises: at least one further layer having a refractive index of less than 2; and at least one further protecting layer on the optically active layer, preferably on the highly refractive layer.
