<p><PICT:1045604/C1/1> Glass is melted by the passage of current between a centre electrode 3 and the containing crucible 1, which is itself inductively heated by current in a surrounding coil 4. The crucible and the electrode 3 are of platinum or platinum alloy. The supply for both forms of heating is taken from a capacitor 5 which is part of a high-frequency generator; each circuit has its own regulator 6,9 and the electrode circuit includes a voltage step-down transformer 8.</p> |
