PURPOSE: A method and a circuit for detecting the speed of motion and a liquid crystal display device using the same are provided to accurately determine the speed of motion in a moving picture by filtering the variation of brightness according to noises and image characteristics. CONSTITUTION: A brightness difference detection unit(4) detects brightness difference information of the current frame using the difference between brightness data of the previous frame and the current frame. A cluster determination unit(6) decides the clustered state of pixels with brightness differences using the brightness difference information detected by the brightness difference detection unit. A brightness difference detection unit(8) detects the brightness differences from the block determined as being clustered. An edge detection unit(10) detects edge components by filtering the brightness data of the current frame. A motion level detection unit(12) detects motion levels according to the brightness differences and the edge components.
