The method involves actuating respective plate cylinder self-motivated and synchronic to each cylinder driven by the main drive through self propulsion in a letter press printing. The color deck is stopped by itself at the printing work not involved in the letter press printing and a defined slip between the plate cylinder and the transfer cylinder is determined during stoppage of the color deck at this printing work by the self propulsion of the respective printing work.
