The invention relates to organic chemistry, in particular to a method for the preparation of 2-bromo-5(trifluoromethyl)thiophen of formula (1):(1).Disclosed is a preparatively simple and convenient one stage method for the preparation of desired 2-bromo-5(trifluoromethyl)thiophene by reaction of commercially available 5-bromo-thiophene-2-carboxylic acid with sulphur tetrafluoride in the presence of anhydrous hydrogen fluoride. The yield is 65%.
