PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an abnormality detection device for an internal combustion engine quickly detecting not only a combustion state but also abnormality of ignition transformer and other circuits. SOLUTION: This abnormality detection device includes the ignition transformer 1, a switching element 2, a bias circuit 3 composed to charge a first capacitor C1 to a level corresponding to breakdown voltage of a first Zener diode ZD1, and a current detection circuit 4 detecting charge current of the first capacitor C1. Propriety of the combustion state and abnormality of each section of the device can be determined by comparing detection voltage Vout of the current detection circuit 4 with a threshold TH of a prescribed level.
