PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a control device for an internal combustion engine, further improving fuel economy by reducing friction of a cut-off cylinder during cylinder cut-off operation control. SOLUTION: An exhaust valve (16) is opened when the cut-off cylinder is in an intake stroke by the use of a power retarding device (30) for the cut-off cylinder during the cylinder cut-off operation control.
