PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide technique for naturally and efficiently performing setting work of metadata in a process of daily file retrieval operation. SOLUTION: This metadata setting system includes a function of calculating a candidate of the metadata to a file wherein the metadata are not set, and starting metadata input as the candidate of the metadata is already set, in a file retrieval screen. The calculation of the metadata candidate has three methods consisting of: a method of setting a character string matched by a retrieval keyword in regular expression as the candidate; a method of setting a keyword of a character string as the candidate when the character string inside the file or of a file path matches a keyword dictionary; and a method of setting frequently appearing metadata in a file group wherein the metadata are already registered as the candidate of the metadata.
