PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the measurement accuracy of an ear type thermometer. SOLUTION: The ear type thermometer is configured to obtain image recognition information indicating whether the distal surface 27A of a probe 27 fully faces the tympanic membrane or not on the basis of the area of a tympanic membrane section VD1 out of an image VD formed by a reflected light L2 for detecting the tympanic membrane, obtained by returning of an illumination light L1 for detecting the tympanic membrane, which is projected from the distal surface 27A of the probe 27 and reflected from the external acoustic meatus 5 or the tympanic membrane 3, to further improve the accuracy of the reception of infrared ray emitted from the tympanic membrane 3 by the distal surface 27A of the probe 27.
