PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a metallic nanoparticle having properties of being dispersed in a polar solvent and an aggregate thereof; a dispersion in which the metallic nanoparticles are dispersed; a member formed by using the same; and a dispersing agent.

SOLUTION: The particle is formed by coating the surface of a metallic nanoparticle having a number average particle diameter of less than 50 nm with a protective agent which includes an organic compound having a polyalkylene oxide group and a carboxyl group such as an ester compound of an alkoxy polyoxyethylene glycol maleate. The dispersion has the metallic nanoparticles dispersed in the polar solvent of diethylene glycol monobutyl ether acetate.
