PURPOSE: An image processing apparatus and a method thereof are provided to reduce the amount of computations for rendering by performing 3D rendering through VPL(Virtual Point Light) arrangement. CONSTITUTION: A first calculation unit(110) generates each shadow map for a plurality of sampling VPLs. A selection unit(140) selects one or more seed VPLs exposed to a second time point for rendering an image. A second calculation unit(120) arranges super sampling VPLs around the seed VPL at the second time point. The second calculation unit generates each shadow map for super sampling VPL.
