PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fixing device which appropriately secures a contact area between a recording medium and a fixing belt without causing temperature decrease in the fixing belt, and an image forming apparatus including the fixing device. SOLUTION: The fixing belt 21 holds its shape along the recessed shape of a nip formation member 26 upstream and downstream in a direction in which the recording medium is conveyed in the fixing-nip N. Furthermore, the fixing belt 21 is made to come in contact with a heating contact part A that is a circumferential side part of the heat conductivity member 22 opposite the fixing-nip N. Then, the fixing belt 21 is made into the shape to have slack 21a and 21b in which upstream and downstream of the fixing-nip N in the conveyance direction of the recording medium are expanded to a position closer to the pressing roller 31 than the fixing-nip N in a horizontal direction without contacting the supporting member 22 and the pressing roller 31, and an area in which the fixing belt 21 contacts the recording medium outside the fixing-nip N is generated.
