The device has a gripper (6) provided for gripping a shoe (7), and an alignment unit arranged in the device. The alignment unit is provided as a sole (8) that is attached to the shoe, or a mold that is adapted to the sole, where spatial relation is produced between the alignment unit and the shoe in a measuring station. A boundary line between the shoe and the sole is visible, and verified and corrected by a machine operator. The sole is fixed on a sole supporting plate, which supports mold elements, whose position in reference to a machine co-ordinate system is detected via measuring systems.
