PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an information processor and an information processing method capable of generating a non-overlapping short file name in a short time. SOLUTION: The information processor includes: a count part 494 counting the number of data files in a directory storing the data files of a memory; a memory storing the number of the data files counted by the count part 494; and a short file name generation part 493 generating the short file name of the data file based on a FAT (File Allocation Table) different from a VFAT (Virtual File Allocation Table) by the use of a part of a long file name and a number obtained by adding a prescribed number to the number of the data files stored in the memory when generating the long file name by a long file name generation part 492.
