PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polyimide film having excellent heat resistance and flatness, a curling degree after heat treatment at 300°C of 10% or less, a water absorption of 4% or less, and an elongation at break of 25% or more, and a suitable process for producing the same. SOLUTION: The process for producing the polyimide film comprises carrying out heat treatment under the condition defined by a specific relationship among an IR set temperature T (°C) (650-900°C), a residence timeτ(min), and a thickness t (μm) of the polyimide film at least in the final step of heat treatment in the imidation step and the process for producing the polyimide film comprises providing an IR heating device and an IR radiation plate or a reflector in accordance with the relationship in the heat imidation.
