The device has a piston (6) moved in a multi path or single path cartridge (1) by a linear drive. The piston has a recess that is associated to the linear drive. The piston is connected with the linear drive over a coupling (22). The coupling has a gripping section, which is attached to a plastic inner wall (16) of the recess and extends in a direction of the inner wall of the recess. An electro magnet is arranged between a main section of the coupling and a spindle of a spindle drive, which is driven by an electric motor. An independent claim is also included for a method for dosing a viscous substance.
