The present invention relates to a ball joint comprising a housing (2), a bearing (6) disposed within that housing (2) and a ball stud (3) with shaft (5) and spherical head portion (4) moving relatively to said bearing (6) and eventually a protective cover (9). The ball joint can be used for example in automobile steering or linkage systems. The Invention relates to a ceramic/fibrous/polymer anti-wear and/or anti-friction layer (11 ) applied to the internal mating surfaces of the ball joint by e.g. spraying, dip and spin coating, layer adhesion or assembly fit over the base material member. Advantageously, the invention relates to an anti-friction layer (11) on the surface of the spherical stud head (4).
