PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a protective agent supply device that supplies an image carrier protective agent containing zinc salt of fatty acids and boron nitride to an image carrier by an amount suitable for attaining an expected object, and to provide a process cartridge with the same, an image forming apparatus with the protective agent supply device or process cartridge, and to provide an image forming method which employs these protective agent supply device, process cartridge or image forming apparatus. SOLUTION: The image carrier protective agent 42Y contains at least the zinc salt of fatty acids and boron nitride, and the image carrier protective agent 42Y is supplied to the image carrier 20Y so that the element contents of zinc (Zn) and boron (B), existing on the surface of the image carrier 20Y, satisfy 0.4≤Zn≤2.5 (atom.%) and 0.2≤B≤30.0 (atom.%).
