The hob has single-piece base body comprising a hollow shaft (10) and a toothed ring (11) that runs in coil-shape and is triangular in cross-section. The toothed ring has 12 equally spaced teeth in which insert seats are incorporated at both sides of tooth flanks by milling, where the insert seats are provided for accommodating left and right cutting inserts. The teeth are separated by grooves, and the teeth and/or 5 to 20 cutting body rows are provided over a rotation angle of 360 degrees. The tooth flanks form an angle of 40 degrees.
