A flat anode is covered with a sponge material which is moistened with the electrolyte and is then guided over the workpiece; the thickness of the sponge keeps the anode at a small, constant distance from the workpiece. The pref. anode consists of a rectangular strip of metal bent to form a triangle and fitted via a plug-, clamp- or screw- connection to a holder rod forming the positive pole for a battery casing which constitutes the handle of the appts. The battery casing is pref. also fitted with terminals which can be fed with direct current obtd. from a mains electricity supply. Workpieces can be electroplated without using a bath, by connecting the negative terminal of the battery or d.c. supply to the workpiece, the anode carrying the electrolyte in the sponge. Provides a constant anode/workpiece distance; and two sides of the triangular anode may be used.
