PURPOSE:To prevent the deterioration of the processing efficiency of a system and to eliminate the incapability of rewriting, by comparing the desired stripe number with the read stripe number to select the desired stripe when a retrial is carried out, and performing the recording/reproducing process. CONSTITUTION:The desired stripe number is compared with the read stripe number to select the desired stripe when a retiral is carried out, and then the recording/reproducing process is performed. For instance, the desired stripe number given from an upper device 21 is stored in a register B19 via an interface control circuit 17. At the same time, a motor 9 is driven via a control circuit 11 and a driving circuit 10 and on the basis of a prescribed control procedure. Thus a capstan 8 is driven to take up a magnetic tape 1 from a spool 7. Then the stripe number is read out of the tape 1 by a rotary head 6 and fed to a demodulating circuit 13 through an amplifier 12. The demodulated stripe number is stored in a register A18 via a decoding circuit 14, etc. Then the stripe numbers stored in the registers A18 and B19 are compared with each other through a comparator 20. |
