PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an elevator hoisting machine for avoiding the spread of oil component over the braking surface of a brake drum by efficiently collecting the oil component which spreads over the outer surface of the rotor of the hoisting machine. SOLUTION: The elevator hoising machine 1 includes the rotor 30, and brakes 40. The rotor 30 is formed integrally with a sheave 31 on which a main rope 3 is wound, and the brake drum 32 having the braking surface 322 on an outer peripheral cylindrical face 321. The brakes 40 are arranged in a pair at positions across a rotational axial center 33 of the rotor 30 in the direction of the diameter for pushing brake shoes 41 facing the braking surface 322 against the braking surface 322. The brake drum 32 has an oil stop outer groove 325 (or 326) in a position near at least one end 323 (or 324) of the outer peripheral cylindrical face 321.
