Disclosed are a method, system and device for uploading and downloading a caption file, belonging to the communication field. The method includes that: When uploading a multimedia file, a player client sends a caption server the file information of the multimedia file and the file information of the caption file thereof; the caption server checks whether contents of the caption file exist according to the file information of the caption file, if contents don't exist, the player client is notified to upload the caption file; when downloading the multimedia file, the caption server accurately searches for associated caption files according to the hash value of the multimedia file sent by the player client, if no caption files, the caption server sketchily searches for the caption file according to the character information of the multimedia file. The schemes provided by the embodiments of the present invention enable that the user can upload and download caption file automatically in the player client, without searching for and downloading caption file by the user, which improves the use experience of the user and saves the server resources.
