The method involves adjusting a valve element between a closing position and opening position by a regulating unit, where flow of liquid is prevented in closing position and allowed in opening position. The position of a valve element is detected by oscillating movement of a detecting unit (24) and the detected position is compared with the amplitude of the oscillating motion. An independent claim is also included for a device for adjusting a valve mechanism, particularly for injection pump of combustion engine.
