PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a light guide plate achieving local dimming with an edge type backlight, and to provide a display applying the same.SOLUTION: The edge type backlight device includes a light guide plate 100 with a plurality of linear-form grooves 200 formed for interrupting movement of light, and a light-emitting part 110 radiating light on the light guide plate 100. With this, local dimming can be achieved with the use of just one light guide plate 100 optically separated.
