The exchanger i.e. exhaust gas heat exchanger (1), has a housing (2), and rectangular pipes (3, 4) arranged in the housing. A damping element (5) is arranged in a gap between an inner wall of the housing and one of the pipes. The damping element formed as a multipart includes rubber and/or thermosetting plastic and/or thermoplastic resin and/or a metallic material e.g. metal mesh and/or metallic sponge and/or metal non-woven, and/or a composite material including polymer such as fiber-reinforced composite or laminate, and/or fiber-reinforced plastic and/or a metal-plastic-composite.
