METHOD FOR INCREASING THE OPERATING EFFICIENCY OF LAND VEHICLE ENGINES

The invention relates to a method to be used on land vehicles for increasing the engine operating efficiency thereof by accumulating braking energy in an energy accumulator. According to this method, an energy accumulator is arranged outside the engine drive and is connected to the wheels, while the travels of the brake, clutch and accelerator pedals include special additional sections over which the operation of the energy accumulator is controlled. The possibility of the energy accumulator operating in series and in parallel with the brake system and the engine is also provided for. The energy accumulator can work in parallel and in series with the brake system in an energy accumulation mode, and with the engine in an accumulated energy consumption mode. The method makes it possible to substantially reduce fuel consumption by recovering energy upon braking, during which, in city driving conditions, 50 to 70 % of the energy generated by engines is lost. The method also enhances the pulling capacity and the life of the engine, and can be used in all vehicles irrespective of engine type, including automobiles with hybrid engines.
