A track-bound vehicle electric machine configured to generate a traction force of a said vehicle has a stator (11) with a stator winding, a rotor (22) rotatably disposed within the stator and having a plurality of permanent magnets (30-33). The material of the permanent magnets, the design of the rotor and the material of insulating means of an electrical insulation system of the machine are selected so that no smoke will be generated upon occurrence of a short-circuit failure in connection with a stator winding in operation of the machine with rotating rotor.
