The invention relates to a process for manufacturing a solid carbonaceous material having one or more properties that can be adjusted for the purpose of catalysing the destruction of pollutants contained in a fluid, the process comprising the following successive steps: a) at least one additive is incorporated into a base bio-oil resulting from the rapid pyrolysis of a biomass so as to form an additive-modified bio-oil; b) the additive-modified bio-oil is heated, at a heating rate between 50°C/s and 5000°C/s, for a time during which the heating rate is applied of less than 0.1 s, so as to obtain the solid carbonaceous material. The invention also relates to the material that can be obtained by the process and to the additive-modified bio-oils as precursors of the material.
