PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To adjust a height by vertically moving a casing in order to suitably maintain a gap between a rotating body and a stationary part when the casing is thermally deformed in starting or stopping during the operation of a turbine. SOLUTION: The steam turbine having a casing composed of an upper half casing 1 and a lower half casing 2 fastened to the upper half casing 1, and a bearing stand 4 for supporting the upper half casing 1 includes at least one of thermometers provided on the upper half casing 1 and the lower half casing 2, respectively, a height adjusting device 15 disposed between the upper half casing and the bearing stand 4, and a calculating control part 17 for controlling the height adjusting device 15 by a measurement value of the thermometer.
