摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display device capable of achieving monodomain alignment with arbitrary size at an arbitrary position even without performing direct alignment treatment to the substrate surface. SOLUTION: The liquid crystal display device 1 includes: a first substrate 11 which has a first electrode 12 on one surface side; a second substrate 15 which has a second electrode 16 on one surface side, and is arranged opposite to the first substrate 1 so that the second electrode faces the first electrode of the first substrate; and a liquid crystal layer 14 which is provided between the first and second substrates. The first electrode has a plurality of first openings 18 each of which is provided in the rectangular shape, and the second electrode has a plurality of second openings 19 each of which is provided in the rectangular shape. Each first opening is arranged so that at least part of each first side overlaps any one or more of the second openings in a planar view, and a second side which faces the first side overlaps none of the second openings and faces the second electrode in a planar view.
