Disclosed is a composition for imparting stress tolerance to a plant which can impart to a plant stress tolerance whereby the growth of the plant can be promoted in an environment causing various stresses on the plant. Specifically disclosed is a composition for imparting stress tolerance to a plant which comprises a cellulose derivative represented by formula (I), catechins and water, wherein the content of said cellulose derivative is 45.0-99.5 wt% relative to the total amount of the components other than water contained in said composition for imparting stress tolerance to a plant.
